Nero - The World-renowned Multimedia Suite
When you think about integrated digital media and home entertainment software, one name immediately comes to mind: Nero. The software started out its life as a simple application to use when you want to burn data onto a physical disc (CD/DVD), and as such gathered quite a large fanbase. Even today when you ask a PC user what he uses to burn CDs/DVDs, that user will answer “Nero.” But over time the software evolved into a true multimedia suite – and this is where it gets exciting.
Nero’s classic functionality is to burn data (via the Nero Burning ROM tool) but it goes beyond that. You can rip, edit, share, create and upload data online. Have an audio CD and want to move the tunes from the CD to your computer, Nero will rip them for you. Want to edit those tunes, Nero will edit them for you. Want to create videos using your music and photos, or want to create CD artwork, Nero will help you out as well.
All of Nero’s functionality can be accessed from one easy to use location: Nero StartSmart. In the past, Nero StartSmart used to be the equivalent of "place a shortcut on my desktop" but it has evolved into a feature that can only be described as a “main control console.” No matter of you are a Nero veteran or have just picked up the software, Nero StartSmart will make it incredibly easy to use the multimedia suite.
The thing that I like most about Nero is its ability to use your computer’s TV tuner. You can watch your favorite TV shows within Nero, and if one show captures your attention you can always record it. There is even a feature call AD Spotter that will automatically detect when a commercial interrupted the show and removes it from the recording. And if the show featured a tune or audio effect you must get for yourself, Nero has a Music Grabber feature that rips audio from video files.
Important data can be backed up with Nero in two ways. The simplest one is to burn that data onto a disk. After all, burning is what Nero excels at. If you are willing to part with some money though, there is one other option: you can backup your data on Nero’s servers.
Nero is available in just one language: English. The software can be used free of charge for a trial period of 15 days.
